I actually had someone else point this out to me, and I felt so dumb for not seeing it! It's a really unique aspect of the Sand Wraith anatomy!) (And this would be the detail that even I forgot in my fanart. In essence, this fin makes a sort of "skirt" for the top of the tail. The "fingers" of the fin that are closest to the body bend toward the tail and are connected over the top of the tail by a flap of skin that resembles those on the rest of the fin. The Sand Wraith doesn't have two separate fins at the base of the tail like a Night Fury.(I'm not sure why this detail gets forgotten so often because School of Dragons even included it on their models, but a lot of people forget about the clawed wing fingers.) Sand Wraiths have spikes on the front of their wings, a large, hardened wing claw, and sharp, hardened claws at the end of their wing fingers.Sand Wraiths have a very straight spine with a level head carriage, as opposed to the supple cat-like spine and high head carriage of a Night Fury.Sand Wraiths have a notably shorter wingspan compared to body length than Night Furies do.Sand Wraiths have a shorter body length compared to their head size and tail length than Night Furies do.They are not spaced and sized like Night Fury plates. The spikes on the Sand Wraith's head that make up its frill are evenly spaced and equally-sized.(The "smile" you might be used to is a Night Fury model thing, not a Sand Wraith thing.) They have a sinister expression despite their friendly demeanor. Sand Wraiths have smaller eyes and flatter heads than Night Furies, with no lift over the eye.So let's just quickly cover often overlooked anatomical details of the original Sand Wraith.Īs can be seen in these pictures, here is some often-overlooked anatomy: Since I always do the original version of a dragon, I'll be doing the Rise of Berk Sand Wraith for these theories, which has a lot more nuances that a lot of people miss. And due to timing and pressure from the overheads, the dragon the School of Dragons devs gave us was just a Night Fury with Sand Wraith features stuck on top, and this model is the image that has solidified in the fandom's collective mind. See, there are two different Sand Wraith models, one in Dragons: Rise of Berk and School of Dragons. See, I honestly don't think anyone really knows exactly what it looks like because, to this day, I've yet to see any accurate fanart of this thing.and that's including my fanart, because I have recently found a detail that I missed, too. Now before we get into Sand Wraith theories, it is really important that we're all on the same page about what this dragon actually looks like. This dragon is downright fascinating! It's one of the few dragons to live in a beach ecosystem, an ecosystem often ignored by fantasy universes, and as someone who seems to like reptiles more than most people, it was really fun getting into a super reptilian dragon again! Buried under all the hype over its appearance, the Sand Wraith is actually a very interesting creature in its own right! But as I got into these theories, I really got interested. So I admit, I wasn't enthusiastic about making theories for this one at first due to all.that. It's more how the fandom treats it that I'm not a fan of, and sure enough, when trying to find other fan theories, all I found was people trying to turn it into a Night Fury. It's not one of my favorites by any stretch, but I like it well enough. But that's not actually because I dislike the dragon. Now admittedly, I haven't exactly hidden the fact that the Sand Wraith is not a dragon I enjoy talking about. Legend has it that anyone who is survives an attack from a Sweet Wraith will fall in love with the next person they see! One is the Desert Wraith, a Sand Wraith subspecies that migrated to and lives in the desert away from the seashore, and one is the Sweet Wraith, a very small pink Sand Wraith subspecies. Hi, everyone! I hope everyone got to watch the opening ceremony for the Winter Olympics yesterday, but today, we'll be focusing on the upcoming Valentine's Day! In honor of the day, I've decided to do theories on the Sand Wraith! Why? Because the Sand Wraith has two specific subspecies.
